Melbourne City will play a competitive match at Casey Fields for the first time when the A-League heavyweights host Wellington Phoenix in an Australia Cup round-of-16 clash on August 17.

City, whose base at the same south-east Melbourne multi-sport facility, will meet the Phoenix on the Casey Fields VFL oval.

“While it may have taken a little longer than we had hoped, we are thrilled to bring this game to Melbourne’s south-east community,” City said in statement.

The City-Phoenix battle is one of four Cup round-of-16 matches being played on August 17.

Other Cup games that night are the South Australian derby between Adelaide City and Adelaide United at Gepps Cross, Oakleigh Cannons’ meeting with fellow NPL club Brisbane City at Jack Edwards Reserve and Avondale’s clash with Brisbane Roar at Broadmeadow.

The Cup round-of-16 kicks off on Wednesday night when South Australian state league outfit Modbury Jets host Macarthur FC at Gepps Cross, and NPL Victoria club Bentleigh Greens meet Sydney FC at Cheltenhem.

Two Cup round-of-16 games also take place on Sunday week, with NPL NSW club Sydney United 58 hosting A-League champions Western United at Edensor Park, and Peninsula Power playing fellow NPL club Green Gully at AJ Kelly Park.
