Sydney escaped with a six-point win against Richmond at the SCG on Friday night in a nail-biter, despite some controversy to end the game.
With only seconds remaining, the Swans were penalised for a free-kick for holding Tiger Dion Prestia 70 metres from goal.
Shortly after the siren went, Chad Warner booted the ball out of the ground, causing Richmond players to plead for a 50 metre penalty, putting Prestia in goal-kicking range.
Trailing by six points, the ex-Sun would’ve had the chance to equalise the scores and end the game as a draw, if he booted a goal.
However, the umpires deemed Warner’s decision to kick the ball wasn’t at the disadvantage of Richmond nor did he hear the whistle signalling a free-kick.
The Swans managed to get away as victors in a much needed win as they enter the halfway mark of the season.
Lance Franklin was the star of the night, kicking five goals, including three in the last quarter.
Although, the superstar forward has found himself in hot water, following an incident with Trent Cotchin that saw Franklin strike the former Tiger captain’s chin.
Sydney now move to 7-4 and have redirected their season toward a top four finish.
The Tigers fall to a 6-5 win/loss record and find themselves in the middle of the race for the final eight.
