Teenage Socceroos star Garang Kuol will join the massive Australian contingent in Scotland after choosing Hearts to start his big-time football journey.
It comes as Socceroos captain Mat Ryan confirmed his own move to AZ Alkmaar in the Netherlands from Danish side FC Copenhagen.
According to several reports in Scotland, Kuol, 18, will join the Scottish outfit on loan from English Premier League club Newcastle who signed the young gun to his first major contract.
There are already three Australians at Hearts – Kye Rowles, Nathaniel Atkinson and Cam Devlin – as well as a strong contingent of Socceroos scattered through Scotland, with Ange Postecoglou also in charge of ladder-leaders Celtic.
Hearts are third on the table and Kuol will join them for the rest of the season to get crucial playing time as part of his development.
Kuol, who had been starring with A-League club the Central Coast Mariners, played two games for the Socceroos at the World Cup in Qatar, including a pool game against France and Australia’s 2-1 loss to Argentina.
Hearts boss Robbie Neilson declared the opportunity to grab Kuol was too hard to pass up.
“He’s a player we’re interested in so he came up for a look around with his agent,” he said after Kuol toured the club’s facilities last week.
“He’s a huge prospect. He’s one we’ve known about for quite a long time because he comes from the same team (Central Coast Mariners) that Kye Rowles was at.
“The opportunity came to speak to him so we brought him up.”
Kuol is likely to get significant game time during his stint at Hearts before returning to Newcastle.
