Josh Giddey has recorded the sixth triple double of his NBA career, but it came in a heartbreaking one-point loss for the Oklahoma City Thunder.

OKC and the Miami Heat were neck and neck for much of their clash on Wednesday (AEDT), before the Heat stole a 112-111 victory in the dying seconds of the fourth quarter.

The Thunder had a five-point lead with 53 seconds remaining but couldn’t hold on for the win, as Miami star Jimmy Butler edged his team in front with a clutch three-point play.

OKC star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander had a chance to win the game at the buzzer but his three-point attempt missed.

It was a gut-wrenching end to the game for the Thunder, who have punched above their weight this season despite languishing towards bottom of the Western Conference standings.

But it was one of the best games of Giddey’s NBA career.

The second-year Aussie finished with 18 points, 15 rebounds and 10 assists in another excellent all-round performance.

With Miami double teaming Gilgeous-Alexander, Giddey had a major hand in OKC’s charge in the fourth quarter.

He did it on both ends of the court too, which was most evident when he somehow defended a 3-on-1 Miami fast break without giving away a foul.

Another Giddey highlight came in the second quarter when the 20-year-old dished a signature no-look pass to teammate Kenrich Williams for an open lay-up.

But it wasn’t to be for Giddey and the Thunder, who now have an 18-22 win loss record and sit 13th in the Western Conference.

Butler finished with 35 points from a perfect 23/23 shooting accuracy. Remarkably, Miami hit 40/40 free throw attempts from the line.

Giddey also becomes the fourth NBA player in history to record 1000 points, 700 rebounds and 500 assists in his first 100 games.

Grant Hill, Luka Doncic and Ben Simmons are the only other players to have achieved the feat.
